Help Your Child Build Healthy Habits and Grow into a Healthier Weight

Work with a pediatric dietitian to reverse unhealthy weight gain using a family-centered, non-diet approach that protects your child’s confidence and well-being.

You’re noticing changes in your child’s weight and you don’t want to ignore it, but you also don’t want to handle it in a way that harms their confidence, relationship with food, or emotional well-being.

If you’re worried about your child’s weight but don’t want to shame, restrict, or make things worse, you’re in the right place.

This is where we change direction.

Not with restriction.
Not with pressure.
But with a clear, guided plan that supports your child’s health physically and emotionally.

I help families reverse unhealthy weight gain in children by focusing on the habits that truly matter: nutrition, eating patterns, lifestyle, and the home environment.

Healthy doesn’t have a size, but healthy habits matter.

I work with a small number of families to create lasting change at home, where it matters most.

This is private, high-touch pediatric nutrition coaching designed to help your child grow into a healthier weight through sustainable lifestyle and behavior change.

This Is For You If

  • Your child is gaining weight faster than expected
  • You’ve been told they’re overweight or at risk
  • You’re worried about long-term health (cholesterol, insulin, etc.)
  • You don’t want to damage their body image or relationship with food
  • You’ve tried making changes, but nothing sticks

This is the work I do every day with families like yours.

Why Typical Advice Doesn’t Work

Most advice for childhood weight focuses on:

  • eating less
  • cutting out foods
  • focusing on the number on the scale

But that approach often backfires.

It can:

  • increase food obsession and focus on food
  • create tension or power struggles
  • harm body image
  • ignore the real drivers of weight gain

Parents feel stuck and second-guess everything. This doesn’t work long-term.

You don’t need more rules. You need a better, more sustainable approach.

Your approach is so refreshing…and so different from what I grew up with.

What Makes This Different

This isn’t a one-time consult.

It’s a guided process where I work alongside you to:

  • understand what’s really driving your child’s weight gain
  • build a realistic, personalized plan
  • help you implement it step-by-step
  • adjust as your child grows and changes

You’re not left to figure it out alone.

A Whole-Child Approach to Healthy Weight in Kids

I take a family-based nutrition counseling approach that includes behavior-based advice focused on healthy habits for kids to help your child grow into a healthier weight, without dieting.

I help families improve a child’s weight trajectory by focusing on the habits that drive health:

  • Daily eating structure and routines
  • Balanced nutrition (without restriction or rigidity)
  • Appetite awareness and self-regulation
  • Sleep, movement, and screen habits
  • Family dynamics around food and health
  • Emotional well-being and body image

This is not dieting. This is behavior change that lasts. And this is how we support childhood obesity prevention and help children grow into a healthier weight, without restriction or shame.

What Changes When You Have the Right Support

When families implement proven, supportive health habits, things start to shift:

  • Meals feel calmer and more predictable
  • Your child becomes more in tune with hunger and fullness
  • Food battles decrease
  • You feel confident in how you’re feeding your child
  • Your child’s growth begins to stabilize

And over time:

  • Weight gain stabilizes
  • Growth aligns more appropriately
  • Lifestyle habits solidify
  • Health markers improve
  • Confidence increases

This is how we create real, lasting change.

Why Work With Jill Castle

I’m a pediatric dietitian with 34+ years of experience helping families navigate childhood nutrition, especially when weight and health feel complicated.

I’m also a mom of four, so I understand firsthand how hard it is to balance:

  • nutrition
  • busy schedules
  • emotions around food
  • and the pressure to “get it right”

I’m the author of Kids Thrive at Every Size, and my work centers on helping children build health without harming their confidence, body image, or relationship with food.

Over the past three decades, I’ve helped thousands of families like yours:

  • stabilize unhealthy weight gain
  • improve eating behaviors
  • and create sustainable habits at home

Not through diets, but through practical, family-centered change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will My Child Lose Weight?

We don’t focus on weight loss. We focus on building the habits that support health.

As those habits improve, many children naturally:

  • slow weight gain
  • grow into their weight
  • improve overall health

Is This a Diet Program?

No. This is nutrition counseling and behavior change, not dieting. We avoid restriction and instead build sustainable habits.

How Quickly Will We See Changes?

Most families begin to notice:

  • improved eating patterns
  • less conflict around food
  • better structure

within the first few weeks.

Physical changes take longer, but they follow the habits.

Is this Right for My Child?

If your child is gaining extra weight or their eating is on an unhealthy trend, this is the perfect time to address nutrition and health habits. Waiting is risky. Many children who carry excess body fat progress to other concerns like sleep apnea, high cholesterol, or poor body image.

Do You Offer Payment Plans?

Yes, you can pay in 3 monthly installments.

Why Do You Require a Long-Term Commitment?

I offer a 3-month package because transforming a child’s health and habits takes time. It’s not a one-and-done deal.

If you want to transform your child’s health habits, attitudes, and sense of self, you need an invested guide. If you just want information, head over to The Nourished Child, my education website for parents.

What is Your Training?

I have a B.S. in Nutrition Science from Indiana University (Bloomington, 1988); and a Master’s degree in Nutrition with a pediatric focus from the MGH Institute of Health Professions, 1995. I completed my dietetic internship at Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston) in 1990 and became a Registered Dietitian (RD) in 1991.

I am licensed to practice in Massachusetts (license #LDN6803).

You can read more about me and my work here.

Do You Accept Insurance?

My pediatric nutrition practice does not accept insurance. I accept payment via Paypal or credit card. I can provide a receipt for services should you want to submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Let’s change the trajectory of your child’s health and relationship with food.

You Don’t Need More Nutrition Information

You need a plan. And support to follow through.
