Yumbox Review & Giveaway

It’s hard to believe that Fearless Feeding: How to Raise Healthy Eaters from High Chair to High School will be on bookshelves in just 18 days. Maryann and I are stepping up our giveaways, to spread the word and excitement–in fact, we’d love you to help us! Over the next couple of weeks, we have some exciting products for you!

Today I am featuring Yumbox. A colorful, bento-style box with some excellent features.

Yumbox was sent to me by the founders, Maia and Daniela, and is inspired by the French priorities of maximizing food balance, variety, taste and nutrition.

I had to test out this attractive, sturdy lunch box!

Yumbox is designed with the child in mind—toddlers, preschoolers and young children will love this unique approach to eating lunch. No little lids to twist off or baggies to unzip, Yumbox has one solid lid that is easy for little (and big) fingers to unlatch. Even bigger kids (up to age 10 years) and adults can use a Yumbox!

Several features make Yumbox even more enticing:

Food balance: Each food well is assigned a specific food group, such as fruit, vegetable, and grains. This reminds you to keep a healthy balance to the meal by including all food groups. It even has a small well for dips or small treats.

Proper portions: Each food well is portioned at ½ cup, perfect for little kids, tweens and adults with smaller appetites. Yumbox is great as a snack container, too. Better yet, you’re more likely to get food portions right with this pre-portioned tray, which is a key element to healthy eating.

Teaching tool: Each food well is labeled with a picture of a food group, so that children can associate (and learn) which food goes with a particular food group and its serving size. No lectures or crash courses on nutrition—rather, just a natural association that occurs with time and experience.

Environmentally-friendly: Yumbox is BPA-free, phthalate-free and minimizes environment-unfriendly plastic baggies, saran wrap, and tin foil.

Mess-Free: Yumbox has a single lid that secures each food well, eliminating leaking and food spillage into the other wells. I know my kids would be grossed out if their yogurt leaked onto their sandwich!

Money-Saver: Think of the savings: no more baggies, plastic ware, containers, pre-packaged snacks and no waste because you’ll be packing the right amounts—and no over-feeding.

In honor of the Fearless Feeding book launch (April 22), I am giving away one Yumbox to one lucky reader! *This is Yumbox’s first giveaway, so let’s show them how excited we are about their product!

I would love to win a Yumbox! I have two small children, ages 2 and 6 years and have just begun to pack bento style lunches in order to not only be more environmentally friendly but to inspire excitement in an otherwise boring lunch. My 6 yr. old saw the Yumbox and was so excited that there were pictures to tell you what kinds of foods need to be included! This is especially important for me as it will encourage him to eat his vegetables if there is a dedicated spot for them. I have “liked” all of the above mentioned Facebook pages. Thanks for the great opportunity!

  30. Lori says

I would love to win a yum box as currently I am using old lunchable containers to make my children’s lunches because I couldn’t find a bento box I liked. The yum box would be perfect! I know I tend to make my children much healthier lunches with variety when I use the lunchable containers, but I have been using the same ones for 9-months now and really need one that is supposed to be reused that many times!

  31. Sarah Denton says

I love all the different compartments to give my kids lots of variety without it mixing together or having to have lots of different containers

  36. Casey Roth says

Hello! I liked Yumbox on Facebook a few weeks ago b/c I LOVE the concept and the product.

Would love to win one b/c my son will be starting Kindergarten in the Fall and, thinking ahead to packing lunches, this would be perfect and make my job easier. He can be a picky kid so I love the idea of being able to give him several small portions of things I know he likes. So if he isn’t into one of them that day, he has other options at the ready.

    Would LOVE to win this!

  37. Shelley G says

I’d LOVE to win a Yumbox! I have been waiting for them to get re-stocked again so I can purchase one. My 4-year old is the pickiest eater ever and refuses to open containers when I send them in his lunch. I despise making school lunches because i can’t seem to find anything that he likes. He hates everything except what I would consider ‘snack food’ (crackers, cheese chunks, yogurt, etc). This box would be perfect to send with him to school so he could get a variety of smaller portions of the things he likes all at once!

  38. Julie Ebdon says

I have found that my 2 and 4 yr old LOVE eating bento style meals. They eat more, and best of all, they eat healthier. I would love to try this, and have a reminder what to pack.

  39. Julie Ebdon says

Liked Fearless Feeding, Yumbox, and Just the Right Byte on FB. Looking forward to keeping updated.

  40. Priscilla Chang says

I have did all &b would very much love to have one YumBox because it’s so useful for me to prepare bento for my boys to school. My youngest is allergic to a lot of staff such as eggs, milk, cheese etc & he can only eat food that prepared by me. To make him feel not so ‘special’ from others, I tried to make nice bento using nice bento box as well. & One of the lunch box that I very much like to own is Yum Box.

  41. Francesca Hirtle says

I would use the YumBox to simplify my 8 year old’s lunch. I usually have to pack many small containers and I think creativity would run wild with lunch.

  42. Lacie Jorgensen says

My 9 year old daughter has been diagnosed with failure to thrive and an eating disorder. Trying to find foods that she will eat and make mealtime fun has been a struggle for us the last few years. I found Yumbox a few weeks ago on Pinterest and am on the list to be notified as soon as they come back for sale. We would love to win one!!!

  43. Jennifer says

My daughter will be starting a new day care this summer where I will have to supply her lunch. I have been researching various bento boxes appropriate for toddlers, and this one looks like the best by far! I love all of the features, and the fact that it teaches the child about nutrition. It is something that can grow with her.
I liked all 3 pages on Facebook!

  44. says

I’d LOVE a box because I have four kiddos, two in school….two who REALLY love it when I make them a cold lunch. That and I’m slightly addicted to nice, neat containers. :-)

  45. Dorinda says

I’d love working with my two year old to fill up the box for lunches at the park or beach. I’m planning to homeschool and then we can work on his knowledge of food groups. :)

I’d love to win one for my daughter that will be starting 1st grade in the fall and needing to take lunch to school.

  48. Alexandra del Llano says

  49. Kimberlee Lorenz says

I would love to win a Yumbox for my preschooler son w/sensory processing disorder. Eating is a challenge for us, and Yumbox looks like fun. Additionally, he tries to be independent, but has been unable to open/manipulate other reusable lunch boxes, but the silicone-lined single lid looks like something he could easily handle. What a well-thought out product!

  50. Cara Dube says

I already pack Bento style lunches for my daughter. If I won this I would begin to teach my son in prep for Pre-k 3 in the fall!

  51. says

I would love to win one for my daughter who is 4 years old. I think it would be a great tool to help her be more independent during the day. I can put snacks in the box and then put it on the lower shelf of the fridge where my daughter can reach when she wants a snack.

  55. Linn says

I want to win this because my son’s preschool teacher has complained about having too many things to open at lunch time, and proportion is something I struggle with… my son loves anything that appears to be a chip.. but we are trying to drive home that he needs to eat a variety of foods.

  56. Kat says

I did all the other entries, too :) I’d love to win a yumbox because my daughter has had a rough year in school and has had to take a month away to get on medication and would LOVE to win this to make going back special

  57. Jordan says

I would love to own a Yumbox because it would help me portion my son’s meals a little better so that I know he is getting what he needs in nutrition PLUS he doesn’t like thinks to touch when he eats so this will be perfect!

  58. Julie says

  72. says

I am of Japanese decent and always had Bento boxes growing up. I have yet to find one that I truly love that is easy for younger kids to use. I feel that some types of healthy meals are just simply easier with a bento style meal and you are not limited to forever making sandwiches for lunch. My children are all great eaters already and I think it is in large part due to the variety I offer them. I feel I have been more limited since my oldest went to school. I would love to be able to give them a similar experience I had with lunches growing up.

  73. melissa stacey says

  74. says
