Popular Halloween Treats: Ingredients & Allergens

Halloween comes and goes every year. Every year, we bemoan the sugar found in Halloween treats, but what about the extras?

Artificial food colors and potential allergen ingredients are just as concerning, particularly if you have a child who is sensitive to them.

For example, some children with ADHD have been shown to be sensitive to the dyes and colors in candy and other treats.

[I review these at length in my nutrition program for parents, The ADHD Diet for Kids.]

Halloween Treats: Allergens & Ingredients You Need to Know

Children with food allergies including milk, soy, tree nuts and peanuts have to dodge these ingredients and be extra careful, especially on Halloween.

[Listen to this helpful podcast interview with a food allergy expert]

I compiled a list of popular Halloween treats, along with their ingredients and food allergens so that you can choose Halloween treats for school, home and parties that are safe for all.

Of course, you can make allergy friendly Halloween treats that are also natural sources of sugar and food dyes.

Hello, clementine pumpkins!

If you’re dealing with a food allergy, or are simply keeping track of additives and food colors, this list gives you the information you need.

Even as I gathered this information from the candy-makers themselves, putting it all together in one list was eye-opening!

Take a look below at some of the most popular Halloween treats and if you are watching food colors, sugar and allergens, I hope this will help you navigate the candy aisle easier.
