While I don’t believe food alone can really transform your family meal (there’s a lot that goes into it like your feeding style and feeding practices), I do believe that adding fruit at the meal table helps to create the best meal and ups the positive environment a bit.
Why Does Fruit Make a Difference?
Kids like fruit!
They like to eat it and will eat it. Start placing a bowl of fruit on your table.
Cut it up, peel it, or just put it out there whole, and see what happens.
It takes the pressure off of veggies.
While you should still offer vegetables at meals (after all, exposing them to veggies is half of the battle), you can rest and relax knowing that your child is getting a source of good nutrition from fruit.
And, you may find yourself dropping the urge to bribe and bargain with dessert to get your child to eat his veggies.
It offers potassium and fiber.
Generally, kids are lacking in fiber and potassium by today’s nutritional standards, so offering a source of these as much as possible helps get your child closer to his needs.
Adding fruit to your mealtime is a super simple tweak that can have a big payoff to your child’s health and even perhaps the happiness factor at your meal table.
